Sports Team Recovery
My Sports Science foundation is channelled into every team I work with. Apart from massage therapy, I have worked at WAIS, in a trainer’s capacity, with age group elite athletes, state and national title winners, and supported Perth clubs and squads through pre-season, in-season, and finals. If you're a coach, club manager, or committee member weighing up recovery support for your squad, here's what that looks like with The Quiet Miles.
Pre-season
Pre-season is when the risk of soft tissue injury is highest, training loads climb fast and bodies are desperately trying to catch up. I work with clubs to set up conditioning support before the season starts, whether that's a block of sessions for the full squad or a regular treatment day players can access as training ramps up. The goal is to get ahead of the injuries that usually show up once real training intensity kicks in.
Finals and post-event
Finals push bodies harder than any other point in the season, and recovery windows get tighter. I can build in additional sessions around finals or a big run of games, providing post-event recovery support more broadly, for individual athletes or squads coming off a hard block. The 24 to 72 hours after a big effort is when targeted work does the most good.
During the season
Once the season's underway, recovery needs to keep pace with the schedule, not fall behind it. A regular treatment day, at the club, at Highgate or Reset HQ, gives players ongoing access to sports and remedial massage without scrambling to book mid-week. Dry Needling is available too, for the trigger points that build up over a long season and somehow don't shift with other treatments or rest.
Luke's background
I completed my Degree in Sports Science (BSc, Edith Cowan University in 2003), plus a Sports Trainer certification through Sports Medicine Australia. This combined knowledge contributes to a thorough assessment, taking into account training loads and injury risk the way a sports scientist would, not just treating whatever's sore that day.
Away from the table, I am dedicated to my personal training in ultramarathons and take an intensity for precision into any sport I jump into whether its cycling, basketball, netball, football or indoor climbing. I understand the physical and mental demands from the inside.
What this looks like in practice
Every club arrangement is different. Some want a weekly treatment day at the clinic, others want support on-site at training. Team rates, regular slots, and flexible formats can all be worked out directly, this isn't a one-size-fits-all package.
